No Goodman At WPR

[note: The following email was sent by Wisconsin Public Radio to a listener who requested that Amy Goodman's Democracy Now! be placed in the program line-up. The response completely explodes the myth that Wisconsin Public Radio is a "liberal" news source.--TP]

Thank you for writing us. WPR has no plans to include "Democracy Now!" in its lineup because it advocates a definite point of view, and we, at Wisconsin Public Radio, are continuously working to have fair and balanced programming. "Democracy Now!" would NOT be a program that would represent fair and balanced programming in the view of many of our listeners. Thank you for your comments. The programming staff does read them and take them into consideration
when making programming changes.

We also spoke with the programming manager and she said that there are several reasons for our decision to not carry Democracy Now!

  1. The guests and interviewers have a political point of view because they are produced by Pacifica, which is a known liberal media source.
  2. We do not have the availability to add a program to our line-up. We are not going to pull one of our locally produced programs to run any program, even if it is free.
  3. At one time, we did have space open for a new program and our team of programmers decided against "dn!" because we often have the same guests on our programs, as they interview during theirs. This would be redundant and repetitive.

We do apologize for any inconvenience, but the following website will locate stations throughout the U.S. and Canada that carry the
program: http://www.democracynow.org/stations.shtml We will continue to have Amy Goodman on as a guest, as long as she is willing. Thanks again for writing us, and for listening to Wisconsin Public Radio.

Sincerely,

Stephanie
