1. New Location For Garden Party: The Time For Tony Palmeri for Assembly Garden Party will still be held on Thursday, June 3rd from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. However, the location has been moved. Instead of having it at my house, at which the yard is currently in almost as bad a shape as the Bush Administration's Iraq policy, Dan and Billie Jo Rylance have graciously volunteered to host the event. They live at 602 East Parkway Ave. in Oshkosh. For more information contact Dan at (920) 231-7597 or email bulgariadb@yahoo.com

The Time For Tony campaign will provide veggie burgers for all. If you'd like to bring some additional treats to pass around, please do. We'll also have some live music. Looking forward to seeing you there!

2. Letters: In the past week two supportive letters have been published in the Gannet Northwestern. The first from Mandy Mabbott and Justin Mitchell:

The second from Winnebago County Supervisor Dave Machotka (Muh-hot-kuh):

3. North Star on AJR 66 Rally: As you may recall, on May 2 downtown Oshkosh was the site of a massive demonstration against the state legislative resolution that would prohibit gay marriage and civil unions. By far the best reporting on the event, and I have only recently come across it, is this piece from Oshkosh North High School student Jess Zimmerman:

4. Jut Pins Down Petri: Yesterday Wisconsin's 6th Congressional District Representative (and--gasp--25 year incumbent Republican) Tom Petri came to Oshkosh City Hall for a listening hour. If you've ever been to one of these things, you know that Petri refuses to speak to the entire audience as a group. Instead, he allots about 5 minutes of individual time for each person who attends. As is typical, it was a Green Party student who managed to extract the most significant information from Petri. Campus Green Justin ("Jut") Mitchell was able to get Petri to say that he will vote against any attempt to reintroduce the military draft.

5. Common Council Bandshells the Taxpayers: The city of Oshkosh has a serious shortage of low income housing. Oshkosh has 6,000 "very low income" (i.e. poor) households. One thousand of Oshkosh's "extremely low-income" (i.e. dirt poor) households have a rent burden exceeding 50% of the household income. Another 300 dirt poor have housing cost burdens greater than 50%. So the Oshkosh Common Council is going to do whatever it can to rectify this situation, right? Wrong. Last night the Council approved (with only Brian Poeschl and Paul Esslinger dissenting) over a million dollars of new debt (it could mushroom to at least $5 million before all is said and done) in order to renovate a park and build an amphitheater. Maybe the homeless people could sleep in the bandshell?

6. How's this for a tax hell?: You know how we keep hearing that Wisconsin is such a tax hell for business that no one wants to locate here? Okay, so why did Forbes Magazine recently name Madison the "best place for business" in America? Here's the story: http://www.forbes.com/bestplaces/2004/05/05/04bestplacesland.html

7. Eric Chaet on Bush: Eric Chaet, author of the delightful "People I Met Hitchhiking on USA Highways," submitted this piece to TonyPalmeri.com: http://ww.tonypalmeri.com/ericchaet.htm

8. Corporate Lunacy: The great Dave Zweifel on how corporate taxes are hidden from the public:

Mike Ivey on how Wal-Mart weasel subsidies out of Wisconsin's local governments:
