3. Where do we go from here? On November 30th the UW Oshkosh Campus Greens and College Democrats sponsored a "After the 2004 Elections" Where to we go from here" forum. Here are my remarks: http://www.tonypalmeri.com/where.htm
4. The TONY Awards: This month's Media Rants column presents the third annual TONY Awards for outstanding journalism in northeast Wisconsin. This year the focus was on dissenters and muckrakers: http://www.tonypalmeri.com/mediarants33.htm
5. The People's Legislature: During the assembly campaign I spent much time talking about the creation of a "Citizen's Caucus." Ed Garvey and others have announced the convening of a "People's Legislature" on January 4th http://www.fightingbob.com/peoplesleg/ I'm not done teaching until noon on that day, but the event lasts until 7 p.m. Perhaps we should think about bringing a busload of citizen activists from the Fox Valley to Madison.
6. Hentz in Council Race: Cheryl Hentz announced recently that she will in fact be running for city council in 2005 http://www.tonypalmeri.com/hentz1.htm There are at least 8 people who have taken out papers to run for council, and at least 6 that have indicated an intention to run for mayor. Developing . . .
7. Bhopal at 20: Mark Hertsgaard writes about the continuing tragedy http://www.commondreams.org/views04/1204-02.htm
8. Steier's Condi: Lots of cheap shots have been hurled at Condoleeza Rice, but I think cartoonist Elena Steier has managed to capture the real Condi: http://striporama.com/blog-o-rama/new/new_11-29-04_condi.html
8. Sorry Everybody: A group of folks upset with the results of Election '04 have put together a genuinely funny website called "Sorry Everybody" to which thousands of Americans have submitted visual apologies to the rest of the world for the election of George Bush. The site also features messages from Europeans and people from other parts of the world that "forgive" us for the election results. Some representative samples:
