1. My Take On The Presidential Debates: The so-called presidential "debates,"
a creature of the Republicrat front-group called the "Commission on Presidential
Debates," begin tonight in Coral Gables, Florida. Representatives of Bush
and Kerry signed a 32-page agreement that essentially guarantees the debates
will be worth about as much as a blanket warmer in hell. (teaching and campaigning
full-time really tests one's ability to create analogies!). Anyway, my take
on the debates can be found in the October issue of the Valley Scene. I say
the debates represent a Democracy Gap and Dispute Gap: http://www.tonypalmeri.com/mediarants31.htm
2. The Tony Blogs: UW Oshkosh Journalism professor Miles Maguire has
established an online blog on which the candidates for the 54th Assembly District
have been asked to respond to questions. You can find all the candidates responses
here: http://www.oshkoshnews.org/candidatesforum/index.html
I have posted all of my responses on my own website. Here they are:
3. 54th Candidates on Tuition: I am the only candidate calling for a
freeze on UW tuition, as you can see in these responses from the UW Oshkosh
Advance-Titan http://www.advancetitan.com/story.asp?issue=11101&story=3076
4. Cobb Brings Real Campaign To Oshkosh: Unlike George Bush, who came
to Oshkosh to have an ice-cream cone at Leon's, and John Edwards who spoke to
an "invitation only" group at the Delta Restaurant, the Green Party's
David Cobb brought a real campaign to Oshkosh. The entire community was invited,
and even though "big D" Democrats have all over the nation tried to
intimidate people out of voting their conscience, still about 100 people came
to hear Cobb. It was incredible. Jeff Potts of the Oshkosh Northwestern covered
the event: http://www.wisinfo.com/northwestern/news/local/stories/local_17870524.shtml
as did Andrew Hellpap of the Advance-Titan: http://www.advancetitan.com/story.asp?issue=11102&story=3112
5. Vote for best Dylan song/album: In honor of Bob Dylan's visit to Oshkosh
on November 2. the Oshkosh Northwestern is taking a poll of readers' favorite
Dylan song and album: http://www.wisinfo.com/northwestern/ss/04/dylan/
For what it's worth, my favorite Dylan song is "It's Alright Ma, I'm only
Bleeding" (that's the one with the line "Even the president of the
United States sometimes must have to stand naked"). My favorite Dylan album
is "Blood on the Tracks". I was actually quoted about the Dylan visit
in Jim Lundstron's Post-Crescent story about it: http://www.wisinfo.com/postcrescent/news/archive/life_17827731.shtml
6. Earth Charter 2004: If you are in the Oshkosh area, come support these
events! http://www.uwosh.edu/earthcharter/summit2004.php
