Green Party Co-Chair to DNR: Need Environmentally Sound Compromise on Pier
Dear Ms. Laatsch;
As Co-chair of the Lake Winnebago Green Party, I am strongly urging you to reject the request of the Otter Street Fishing Club to place a children's pier on the proposed site in Miller's Bay.
This issue is not just about the people in the proposed site's neighborhood; it is about protecting one of Oshkosh's most beloved and important "green'" spaces. Our community should be working together to slow the loss of open space and, if necessary, help donors and local government choose a location for a fishing pier which makes more sense from environmental and practical standpoints.
After reading and hearing many opinions of residents who are either most affected or most concerned about the placement of this pier, I have to agree that it would dramatically detract from the quality of Oshkosh's urban environment. That these people were not consulted before the City Council "rubber-stamped" the project is also of major concern to our members.
Again, I respectfully ask that you reject the currently proposed placement of the pier in Miller's Bay and ask that you participate in finding a more environmentally sound compromise.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
Respectfully yours,
Kay Springstroh
