On Saturday, September 18, 9:00-11:00 a.m., David Cobb will be at a Green Party rally at Rainbow Park, Oshkosh. The event, "A Green Party," is a rally for Cobb and for two local Green Party candidates, Carol Rittenhouse (6th Congressional District) and Tony Palmeri (54th Assembly District).

This is the first time that the Green Party has hosted a rally for a Green presidential candidate as well as local office seekers. While the Republicans and Democrats are giving Oshkosh only slight recognition, the Green Party believes that Oshkosh is a vital location for the development of grass-roots progressive politics in Wisconsin.

"The David Cobb-Pat LaMarche campaign is about growing the Green Party and providing the voters of this country with a genuine alternative to the corporately-funded establishment parties. I believe a majority of Americans share our opposition to the continued occupation of Iraq and join us in supporting universal health care, a living wage and publicly-funded elections," Cobb said.

"We are proud to be running a campaign which will register more Green voters and help more Greens run for and get elected to local office. And, our campaign is strategically designed not only to grow the Green Party but to have the election conclude with the removal of the illegitimate occupant of the White House," said Cobb.

Cobb, 41, a native Texan now living in northern California, is a long-time Green Party activist who earned the party's presidential nomination after years of serving the party as a lawyer, lecturer and community organizer. Cobb and his running mate, Patricia "Pat" LaMarche, 43, were nominated as the Green Party's presidential and vice presidential candidates at the party's national convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 26. The campaign is currently on the ballot in 30 states and expects to add more before the November election.

Cobb, as well as Palmeri and Rittenhouse, will be available for individual interviews with reporters. Media contact at the event will be Bob Poeschel.

"We are thrilled that David Cobb has agreed to stop in Oshkosh," said David Barnhill, coordinator for the event. "We have an active, growing Lake Winnebago Green Party and Campus Greens group, and his visit will help the local party grow and give a big boost to our local candidates Carol Rittenhouse and Tony Palmeri."

The Green Party is the fastest growing political party in the country. There are over 400 candidates in at least 39 states. Wisconsin is one of the strongest states for the Green Party, where there are 20 elected officials from the Green Party. This year, 41 Greens are running for office in the state. Wisconsin also boats the longest running Green elected official Dave Conley, Board of Supervisors, Douglas County, Wisconsin (1990-2006).
