When you
get up
And read the news
And see
your name
Ripped like old shoes
Because
you dared to upset the choices
Of those
who don’t want the people to choose
Lord, you’ve got the Cobblestoner Blues.
Now you
might be preacher, a teacher,
A writer, a fighter, a student too
You might
be up, down,
Under and out and
Take a sideways view
You can
be a Muslim, a Christian,
A Buddhist, an atheist, or a Jew
But question
what’s going on in your community
And refuse to pay those establishment
dues
Lord,
you’re gonna have those
Cobblestoner Blues
